Short, plain-language definitions for the terms golfers and league organizers see in TeeLedger. Each league's saved rules still control its exact scoring.

Also called: adjusted gross, AGS
Gross score after the league's stroke-control limits are applied.
Adjusted gross is used for handicap calculations. A league may cap an unusually high hole or round score before calculating a differential. It is not the same as net score because handicap strokes have not been subtracted.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger applies the stroke-control method saved in the league's handicap rules.
Also called: deuces, two
A gross score of 2 on a hole.
A deuce is any hole completed in two strokes. A league may award separate points, prizes, or recognition for recorded deuces.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger identifies a deuce from the recorded gross hole score.
Also called: gross, raw score
The total strokes taken before handicap strokes are applied.
A golfer's gross score is the number of strokes recorded, including penalty strokes, before any handicap adjustment. It is the starting point for adjusted-gross and net calculations.
Also called: gross skins
A skin decided by unadjusted hole scores.
A gross skin goes to the unique lowest gross score on a hole. Handicap strokes do not change the scores used to decide the winner.
Also called: net
Gross score after the applicable playing-handicap strokes are applied.
Net scoring adjusts a golfer's gross score using the handicap strokes assigned for that event. It lets golfers of different abilities compete on a more equal basis.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger allocates event strokes using the saved playing handicap and hole handicap order.
Also called: net skins
A skin decided after handicap strokes are applied to hole scores.
A net skin goes to the unique lowest net score on a hole. The assigned handicap strokes can change which golfer or team has the low score.
The expected number of strokes for a hole or complete course.
Par is the score a scratch golfer is generally expected to need for a hole or course under ordinary conditions. Many scoring formats compare each hole score with par.
Also called: league points, match points
League-awarded value based on the scoring rules, not simply the stroke total.
Points are the standings value produced by a league's scoring rules. They may come from holes won, matches, medal results, attendance, Stableford, quota, skins, or another configured competition layer.
In TeeLedger: The explanation saved with each finalized result shows which competition layers contributed its points.
Also called: ringer, ringers, ringer board
A composite round made from a golfer's best score on each hole.
A ringer score takes a golfer's lowest recorded score on hole 1, lowest on hole 2, and so on across eligible rounds, then totals those best holes. It is a season-long achievement, not the score from one actual round.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger needs hole-by-hole rounds before it can calculate a ringer total.
Also called: skin game
A hole-by-hole game in which a unique low score wins that hole's skin.
In a skins game, golfers or teams compare scores on each hole. A skin is awarded when exactly one eligible golfer or team has the lowest configured gross or net score on that hole. League rules determine eligibility, ties, carryovers, fees, and payouts.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger can track player or team skins using gross or net scores.
Also called: rating
The expected difficulty of a set of tees for a scratch golfer.
Course Rating indicates the score a scratch golfer is expected to make when playing well under normal conditions from a specific set of tees. It can differ from par.
Also called: allowance, handicap percentage
The percentage of a handicap used for a format or player type.
A handicap allowance reduces or preserves a handicap to support equitable play in a particular format. Leagues may use different percentages for regular golfers and substitutes.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger applies the regular or substitute percentage saved in the league rules.
Also called: GHIN index, index
A portable measure of demonstrated playing ability.
A Handicap Index represents a golfer's demonstrated ability and can be converted for different courses and tees. An official Handicap Index is governed by the World Handicap System and is different from a league-specific handicap.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger can store a GHIN or other supplied index separately from the handicap calculated by the league.

The rule that chooses how many low score differentials count at each history size.
The handicap selection table tells TeeLedger how many of a golfer's lowest differentials to average for each number of eligible scores. For example, '6 scores → lowest 4' means TeeLedger sorts six differentials from lowest to highest and averages the lowest four. If no row exists for the golfer's available-score count, all eligible scores in the history window are used.
In TeeLedger: Each row applies to one exact available-score count. Add or replace a row with Set row, or remove it with the × button on that row.
Also called: local handicap, league H
The handicap calculated under this league's own saved rules.
A league handicap is the value a league calculates from its selected score history, allowances, limits, rounding, and other policies. It may intentionally differ from a golfer's official Handicap Index.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger keeps the calculated league handicap read-only on the player profile so its source rounds remain traceable.
Also called: strokes received, relative strokes
The strokes a golfer receives relative to the low-handicap opponent in a match.
Match strokes are based on the difference between competitors' playing handicaps, then assigned to holes in handicap order. The lowest-handicap golfer commonly plays from zero while the others receive the difference.
In TeeLedger: For same-flight A/B matches, TeeLedger calculates relative strokes within each lineup position.
Also called: event handicap, playing H
The handicap actually used to allocate strokes for a specific event.
A playing handicap is the competition value used to give or receive strokes. It can start with a league or course handicap and then apply the event's allowance, tee adjustment, rounding, or approved override.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger saves the playing handicap in the event snapshot so later rule changes do not rewrite the event.
Also called: negative handicap
A handicap better than scratch, usually shown with a plus sign.
A plus-handicap golfer is expected to score better than a scratch golfer. Instead of receiving strokes, that golfer may need to add or give strokes under the competition rules.
Also called: differential, handicap differential
A round's performance adjusted for the difficulty of its course and tees.
A score differential compares adjusted gross score with Course Rating and accounts for Slope Rating. It makes rounds from different courses and tees more comparable for handicap calculations.
In TeeLedger: A league can instead choose a simpler score-minus-par differential in TeeLedger.
Also called: slope
How much harder a set of tees plays for non-scratch golfers relative to scratch golfers.
Slope Rating measures relative difficulty, not absolute difficulty. A higher slope means the tees become more challenging for non-scratch golfers compared with scratch golfers. The standard slope used in handicap calculations is 113.
Also called: rating adjustment, mixed-tee adjustment
A change that accounts for competitors playing tees with different ratings.
A tee adjustment helps preserve equity when golfers in the same competition use tees with different Course Ratings. The league rules determine whether and how the difference changes playing handicaps.
Also called: A player, B player, lineup position
A team lineup position used to match comparable golfers against each other.
In a two-person team league, the A golfer commonly has the lower handicap and plays the opposing A golfer, while the B golfers play each other. League rules may allow the lineup to be saved or adjusted.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger defaults A to the lower-handicap teammate while preserving an approved saved lineup.
Also called: combined score
A team method that adds the partners' scores together.
Aggregate team scoring counts the applicable scores from all designated partners instead of using only the best score on each hole.
Also called: four-ball, low ball
A team format using the lowest partner score on each hole.
Each partner plays their own ball. The side's score for a hole is the lower applicable score among the partners. Some leagues use 'best ball' informally for this four-ball team method.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger's team best-ball calculation selects the lower partner score on each hole.
Also called: golf flight
A group of golfers or teams separated for fairer competition or reporting.
A flight divides a field into smaller competitive groups, often by handicap or ability. Pairings, matches, standings, awards, or reports can be limited to one flight.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger stores flights as league groups and can use them for pairings, scorecards, and report filters.
A format where golfers or sides compete hole by hole.
In match play, each hole is won, lost, or tied based on the applicable score. The match result depends on holes won rather than the lowest total stroke score for the round.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger leagues can award separate hole, match, and medal points within a team match.
Also called: stroke play
A format decided by the lowest total score over the round.
Medal play is another name commonly used for stroke play. Every counted stroke contributes to the total, and the lowest applicable gross or net total wins.
Also called: position round
A scheduled round pairing teams according to their current standings.
On position night, nearby teams in the standings play one another instead of following the ordinary rotation. Leagues often use it late in a season or at selected checkpoints.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger can insert position nights after selected round-robin rounds.
Also called: points quota
A points format comparing earned scoring points with a personal target.
A golfer earns points under the league's scoring scale, then compares that total with a personal quota. Results are commonly expressed as points above or below the target.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger can use the saved base quota, a recent adjustment, or an approved player override.
A start where groups begin at about the same time on different holes.
A shotgun start places groups around the course so they can begin simultaneously or nearly simultaneously. It reduces the time between the first and last groups finishing.
A format awarding points on each hole according to score relative to a target.
Stableford converts each hole result into points by comparing the applicable score with a fixed target, commonly par. The player or side with the most points wins. The exact point scale is set by the competition.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger lets the league configure the point value for each result relative to par.
Also called: sequential start
A scheduled time for a group to begin on a designated hole, usually the first.
With tee-time starts, groups begin one after another at set intervals. The schedule identifies each group's starting time and tee assignment.
Also called: allowlisted data source, report source
A safe, predefined set of league data available to the report builder.
An approved data source exposes only supported fields for the selected league and report type. It prevents a custom report from running arbitrary database queries or reaching another league's data.
Also called: scoring layer
One scoring rule that contributes points or awards to the final result.
A competition layer is one part of TeeLedger's scoring policy, such as match points, Stableford, quota, skins, attendance, or prizes. Layers run in order and their contributions are recorded in the result explanation.
Also called: league-specific player field, profile field, roster field
A league-defined profile item with a separate value saved for each golfer.
A custom player field lets a league record a persistent detail that is not part of TeeLedger's standard player profile. Creating the field defines its label, data type, and visibility; it does not fill in a value. A commissioner enters a separate value by opening each golfer from People. A member-visible field is also available to a signed-in member on their own linked profile, while a staff field is limited to staff views.
In TeeLedger: Custom player fields are shown in Personal details on the organizer-side player record. They are not published on the public player page and do not affect handicaps, scores, or standings. Use Custom statistic in Results for values that change by round or hole, such as putts.
Also called: event-opening snapshot, safe snapshot
A saved copy of the rules and participant values used for one event.
An event snapshot freezes the relevant rules, golfers, tees, and handicap values for that event. Later edits to league settings do not retroactively change what the event used.
Also called: official result, locked result
The official result created after score review is complete.
Finalization turns reviewed scorecards and competition rules into ranked official results. Finalized values are no longer edited as unfinished event data.
In TeeLedger: Corrections create a linked amendment and a new result version rather than silently changing the original.
Also called: ghost score, ghost player
A traceable stand-in score used when a scheduled golfer is absent.
A ghost golfer is not a real roster member. It is an event-only stand-in whose score is generated or entered under the league's policy so a match can be completed when a golfer is absent.
In TeeLedger: TeeLedger stores the source rounds, policy, generated holes, and credited recipient so the ghost result can be audited.
Also called: member role, account role, Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Captain, Scorer, Player
The permission level assigned to a person's TeeLedger account for one league.
A league role determines which work an account can perform. The Commissioner owns the workspace; an Assistant Commissioner handles day-to-day administration; a Captain manages only their own team; a Scorer handles league-wide scorekeeping; and a Player manages only their own participation and scores.
In TeeLedger: Roles are assigned per league, so the same person can have a different role in another TeeLedger workspace.
Also called: in-play publication, live results
A public, event-only view that updates while scoring is underway.
The live leaderboard publishes only the event information intended for in-play viewing. It remains separate from unfinished commissioner work and from the final official result version.
Also called: playoff tie breaker, team first, individual points tiebreaker
The saved order used to decide which team advances when playoff team points are tied.
A playoff tiebreaker defines what TeeLedger compares after the playoff event is finalized. A league can require an extra match immediately, or compare the teams' combined individual points after team points tie.
In TeeLedger: With Team points first, individual points second, TeeLedger compares finalized team points first and sums the finalized individual points assigned to each team only when those totals tie. If both comparisons tie, the match remains unresolved until an extra tiebreak event is confirmed.
Also called: saved snapshot, report artifact
A saved report generated from the data available at one point in time.
A report snapshot preserves its selected columns, filters, visibility, and generated output. Later data changes do not silently rewrite that saved artifact.
Also called: visibility
Who is allowed to open a generated report.
Report visibility controls whether an artifact is limited to commissioners, available to signed-in league members, or intended for the public. It is separate from the report's file format.
Also called: audited correction, tracked correction
A documented correction that creates a replacement result version.
A result amendment records what changed and why while keeping the original result version available for review. It prevents corrections from erasing the event's history.
Also called: immutable result version, official result version
A numbered, read-only edition of an event's official results.
A result version preserves the exact ranked results and explanations that were official at a point in time. 'Immutable' means that version is not edited in place; a correction creates a replacement version linked to the original.
